Tripura JICA Project
 


The Forest Department, Govt. of Tripura has entered into an agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) now called Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This is an afforestation and poverty alleviation Project.

The Project period is eight years commencing from the FY 2007-08. The JICA is funding for identified project area of 7023 sq. km, of the state for achieving its
objectives.
 
The Project envisages rehabilitating the degraded forest areas through afforestation of about 66,000 ha of plantation and conservation of the soil and moisture regime.

The project envisages implementing the activities through 456 Joint Forest Management Committees / Eco Development Committees and Re-grouped Forest Villages falling in  the Project Areas.
 
The Project also aims to achieve its stated goal of poverty alleviation by providing Income Generating Activities through 1400 Self Help Groups that are formed under the JFMCs/EDCs.

The Conservation of Biodiversity and Wildlife Resources is also one of the important components of the project.

The Project is being implemented in eight Forest Divisions, thirty five blocks and in seven Districts of the state.
